Island Breeze is a community day program for older adults and their caregivers — crochet circles, domino game nights, arts and crafts, wellness workshops and outings, all with a warm Caribbean welcome.
About us
More than just activities… it’s a healthier, happier you!
Island Breeze Seniors Day Program Ltd. is a federally incorporated not-for-profit organization, founded in October 2018 and based at Hagerman Corners Community Homes in Markham. We serve adults aged 55 and older — and the caregivers who love them — with programs that help people connect, engage and socialize.
We are governed by a volunteer board of directors and run with the help of dedicated volunteers and community facilitators.

Game nights
Dominoes and friendly competition — the group always looks forward to the interaction and socializing.
Arts & crafts
Creative, hands-on sessions to make something beautiful together.
Laughter Yoga
A joyful wellness workshop for seniors that combines laughter, breathing and gentle movement.
Meditation & holistic wellness
Calming sessions focused on stress relief, balance and whole-person wellness.
Healing Through Poetry
A supportive workshop for seniors in South Markham exploring grief and healing through the written word.
Community outings
Group trips and excursions to local spots — like our visit to the Markham Museum’s older adults program.
Special events
Tea parties, health fairs and seasonal celebrations with our community partners.

In the community
Carefirst
Carefirst has hosted a tea party for our seniors, and our members joined the Carefirst Health Fair at the YMCA in Markham.
Black Health Initiative

Eastern York Region North Durham OHT
Island Breeze is listed among the community partners of the Eastern York Region North Durham Ontario Health Team.
Government of Canada
Our programs have been supported by federal community grants, including funding through the Supporting Black Communities stream of Employment and Social Development Canada.

Our seniors have visited the Markham Museum’s older adults program.
